Phantom films, Prakash Jha Productions in tussle over ‘Jai Gangaajal’ rights
Ghost Films served a notification to Jha saying he didn't have the rights for the spin-off of "Gangaajal"
Stuck in an unfortunate situation for movie producer Prakash Jha, Phantom Films has served a Rs. 1 crore notification to his generation house, asserting that the film Jai Gangaajal was made without spin-off rights.
Apparition Films, a joint motion picture generation house possessed by Vikas Bahl, Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena, claims it has the IPR (protected innovation rights) of 2003 discharge Gangaajal, coordinated and delivered by Jha, and the rights to make spin-off or any adjustment taking into account the first film.
The notification, issued on August 6, guaranteed that Jha Production (PJP) had made a spin-off of Gangaajal without having rights.
"As the film is made as of now and protected innovation rights are damaged, Jha ought to give Rs. 1 crore to Phantom film as pay," the notification expressed.
It added that if Jha neglects to pay the pay inside 7 days, than Phantom will go to court against the chief and PJP over the issue.
Apparition film in its notification additionally expressed that Jha had officially taken cash for the privileges of the film Gangaajal and Jai Gangaajal (from Phantom), and consequently, does not hold the power to make a continuation.
The notification was issued after Play Entertainment (co-maker of Jai Gangaajal) had as of late given a promotion in an exchange magazine, with respect to the privileges of Gangaajal.
The promotion said that if no one swung up to assert the privileges of the film (Jai Gangaajal), then it will be accepted that the rights will be ensured by Play Entertainment.
As of late, Play Entertainment, co-maker of Priyanka Chopra-starrer Jai Gangaajal had recorded a police protest against its executive Prakash Jha's generation organization, charging misrepresentation and deceiving.
"Not a spin-off"
Responding to the notification issued, Prakash Jha Productions CEO Sunil Agrawal said the whole world partners Jha with 2003 discharge Gangaajal and that Jai Gangaajal was not a spin-off of the main film.
"Gangaajal was a formation of Prakash Jha. What's more, this (Jai Gangaajal) motion picture is not a continuation of the prior film. It is autonomous independent from anyone else. There is no comparability between both films so where is the topic of damaging IPR?" he doubted.
He included that if affirmations against PJP were valid, the complainant could have gone to court and slowed down the arrival of Jai Gangaajal.
"Be that as it may, they didn't do as such as they had no substance in their claims. They are just attempting to get preferred standpoint of Jha's status," he said.
In the mean time, an authority from Amboli police headquarters said that a letter of request has been issued to Jha, requesting that he show up before them on Wednesday. "We have issued a letter of request to Prakash Jha. We have asked for him to answer a couple questions that we have," he said.
